pages 13 - 15...
“I’m sorry to have to tell you this Dr. Hartmann, but your baby is dead.” What words to have to tell a father that had waited for 10 long years for a child? Dead. Dr. Dowling’s words would have caused any parent great grief and turmoil, but this OBGYN then handed the lifeless blue baby to him. A daughter, Dr. Dowling told him and with those words he added, “Again, I am so sorry”.
What would any of us have done at that time, I really could not say, but this man, Dr. Hartmann, my dad, lifted this dead child towards the heavens and declared, “Father, you promised that this child would live and not die, and I thank you that this child is alive.”
With those words, that dead, lifeless baby moved and began to cry. Shocked, Dr. Dowling grabbed the child and my dad could only begin to rejoice in the wonderful God that He served. My dad could only add that at the strength of her loud wails, that one day she would sing to a world and declare His Faithfulness in her life. That lifeless dead baby was I and I have tried to fulfill the words that my Godly father spoke over me to this day. A life beginning with miracles and everyday walking in His faithfulness and power.
However, this is really not the beginning of my miraculous story. I will need to go back several years. Read this account with an open heart, one that desires for God to do the same in your life.
My mom had a very tough beginning to life as well. At her birth, her mom died during labor. This left an alcoholic, Irish man with a small baby and young twins to raise on his own. By mom’s third birthday, it was too much for him to handle, so he abandoned her. I guess that would be what you would call it. He asked who in his family wanted a child to work in the fields, or do their daily chores and those were the new “family” members that mom had for her growing years. She recalls many hours of hard work, severe beatings and being molested. Tragic.
At 17, mom was being driven to another family for their bidding. The driver lost control of the car and it went barreling down a mountain. All were killed in the car, except mom, and she was in very critical shape. She has been told that she was in a coma for three months and several surgeries were performed to save her life. When she awoke, a visible scar was on her face, but one deeper inside her was the one that would rip her heart out.
Again, a doctor had to give the bad news. “Miss O’Conner, to save your life, I had to perform several radical operations. One was to remove all your female organs. I am sorry, but you will never be able to have a child.” She was crushed, not a complete woman, barren. She decided right then, never to fall in love and to live her life single and alone.
Mom moved from place to place and was very weak and always, it seemed, very ill. She had been told about a clinic in Davenport, Iowa that took in ill patients and let their interns “practice” on them. What did she have to lose? The doctors in California had told her that she would not live a long life due to her internal injuries. So off to Iowa, mom decided to go. After all she could die just as easily there as in California.
Are you getting the picture that God always has a plan and a way of escape for each of us? One that we may not understand may not see. But, God is always working on our behalf.
Who do you think is working as an intern in this clinic in Davenport, Iowa? Yes, that would be my dad. But before we start there, let me back up and share with you his background and life.

Worthy of Worship
Read Psalms 99
As Moses was tending his father-in-law's sheep in the desert, his
attention was drawn to a strange sight. A bush was burning without
being consumed. When Moses turned to look more closely, God said to
him, "Take your sandals off your feet, for the place you stand is
holy ground." (Exodus 3:5)
The experience of Moses teaches us that God desires not only our
reverence and respect, but that He desires to meet with us. We are
encouraged to "come boldly to the throne of grace." (Hebrews 4:16)
We can experience the presence of God because Jesus has opened the
way for us through His death on the cross.
Our Heavenly Father is not "the man upstairs." He is God, the One
who is high and lifted up, and He desires to meet with you and tell
you that "your voice is lovely and your face is beautiful." (Song
of Solomon 2:14)
He is worthy of our praises, so let us give Him our highest
praises.

Song of Solomon Ch. 3 (page 14)
by Denise Hartmann-Echterling
With Chapter 3:6 begins the third Canticle, the historical setting of which is the life of Christ and His ministry while upon this earth. The first Canticle ends with the entreaty of the bride, that the daughters of Jerusalem shall, ‘stir not up nor waken, her beloved until he please’ and the second Canticle closes with the same entreaty, although as we have noted with a different motive.
3:6-8 Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense with all powders of the merchant? Behold it is the litter of Solomon: threescore mighty men are about it, of the mighty men of Israel. They all handle the sword, and are expert in war; every man hath his sword upon his thigh, because of fear in the night. She marvels at the display of His power and might. Now, she began to realize the ability of the Lord to care for her, and to bring her through the wilderness, into the fullness of all that He intended for her, in this wilderness setting, the Lord revealed Himself to her, in all of His glory and might. Now, she saw only Jesus, all other things had lost their value, and she began to fall in love with Him and Him alone. The litter as applied to Jesus is a symbol of His human body, which was the tent or tabernacle in which He walked when upon this earth and ministering among men. Threescore….It is the angelic hosts guarding Him and us.
3:9 King Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon. He made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom (seat) of gold and the covering of it purple, the midst thereof being paved with love, for (or from) the daughters of Zion. It was Christ who made the chariot in which to bring His bride home to His father’s house of many mansions. This chariot is built of the cedar of Lebanon, or the sinless manhood of Jesus. The divine cedar, of which this Chariot of Salvation is built, was being prepared when Christ came down and took the form of man, walking among men, and ministering unto them.
3:10 He made the pillars thereof of silver. Pillars are a symbol of strength and steadfastness. Four pillars supported the veil, which concealed the Holy of Holies and four pillars are described as being at each corner and supporting the covering of his chariot. Silver sometime means the Word of God and also purity, but the most important meaning of silver is the Jewish worship in atonement. ‘Bottom’ or literally ‘the seat’, is a figure of the mercy seat in the Jewish Tabernacle, which covered the Ark of the Covenant and upon which the presence of Jehovah rested.

Chapter One
“Let my People Go!”
“Let my people Go!” In Exodus 5:1, we see these words first used by
the Israelite leader, Moses, when he was speaking with Pharaoh,
Egypt’s ruler. These powerful words given to Moses show us that it
is the heart cry of our loving God for His “bound-up”
children.
I really never thought about the importance of these words until
not too long ago, when I realized it has never been or ever will
be, God’s intention for His children to be chained to any type of
plague or curse (sickness, disease, poverty, etc). These were
placed against the heathen or the disobedient. See Deuteronomy 28:
15-68. My question is…Why do we as believers choose to walk in the
plagues and curses, and not His blessings? Choosing is for you and
me to make -RIGHT NOW.
We see in Deuteronomy 30:19, that God allows each of us the choice.
“…I have set before you life and death, blessings and cursing:
therefore choose life, that both you and thy seed may live.” Do you
see that it is OUR choice to have life or death? Do you also see it
is OUR choice to have blessings or curses in OUR life and even in
OUR seed's (children and families) life? So often, we place the
responsibility of our troubles, trials and situations on God when
that responsibility truly lies within our choices. I have found
that by agreeing with the world's viewpoint and its rules, I forgot
that I belonged to another kingdom, whose Ruler loves me and
desires for me to be free from all bondages.
The true story in the following chapters illustrates how Exodus 8
became real to me. It shows how you and I NEVER have to live a life
short of abundance and victory.
