Packing to Perfection: Packing to Perfection:

Packing to Perfection:

I have tried to master the art of packing. I would even go as far as saying that I am an “expert packer.” Just hearing those two profound words makes my shoulders go back with great pride knowing that I am an expert when it comes to building a suitcase for traveling. Growing up being a full time missionary with my parents has molded me into a professional when it comes to packing for the adventure ahead. You never know what the weather will be like or what events you will stumble upon, you must always be prepared.

As much as we travel, you would think that everyone in my household is a pro or “expert packer” like myself, however, that is far from the truth. My dad would rank up there as the worst packer you will ever meet. For example, on one trip he packed forty-nine pairs of socks and one shirt. Enough said about his inabilities. It was then, that I came up with a list on how to help him pack successfully.

Here is the list:
1) Make a list and check it
2) Lay everything out
3) Label
4) Lose extra baggage
5) Keep the list

As I wrote out this list and handed it to my dad to help him not make the same mistake again when packing, I realized that the list had a two-fold meaning. All of us, even myself, have made a list for the coming New Year. It is commonly known as a “New Years Resolution List.” For many, this self-made list has haunted the start of our New Year. Each year we write down seemingly unattainable goals that we plan to complete, but never do. Writing out a Resolution List that is full of objectives is similar to me writing out a list on how to pack the perfect suitcase. My list is written to ensure that I will make the most of my travel space and the Resolution List is written so that we will make the most of our plans for the New Year. We must just write it all down.

Going into the New Year with new adventures before us, we cannot be unprepared like my dad was by bringing too many unnecessary items. We must plan ahead. We must lay everything out and lose all of the nonessential baggage. This coming year, you must try to stick to the list that you have made and then look ahead to see what you need. Remember that the coming year will always have unexpected surprises and wonderful adventures.

Not only will this Resolution List help you conquer the challenges that the New Year may hold, but it will also help you pack the perfect suitcase for your Holiday travels. Who knows, if you follow the list that I have given, someday, you might even become an “expert packer” like myself.

Happy New Year, Michelle
