Soaring With God

Half of my life is spent on an airplane. In the past three months, I have been on over 75 flights and in 30 different airports. On my most recent flight, I was traveling from Seattle to Calgary Alberta, Canada. When you travel any distance you find yourself traveling exhausted. I had planned to catch a few minutes of shut-eye, unfortunately, the window shade by my seat would not close and I found myself getting frustrated. Trying to drift off to sleep was impossible because the sun was piercing through the unshaded window and straight into my eyes. After a few moments, I gave up on the idea of sleep and opened up my textbook to read and hopefully pass the time. Into a few minutes of my reading, my eyes needed to uncross and refocus and it was then that I decided to look out of the trouble causing window. That was when I saw them, the majestic Canadian Rockies. The mountains were gleaming from the sun lighting up these snow covered wonders. I could not open my eyes wide enough to grasp the wonder and majesty of this incredible and beautiful sight. While gazing at the ever-changing landscape, I was surprised at the size of the mountains. These peeks reach a height of over 12,000 feet and yet looking at them, they appeared as if I could hold them in the palm of my hand.
This incredible sight reminded me of Isaiah 40:26-31. When we rise upon Gods wings and soar to a new level, we will see life's situations decrease and God increase. Those things that seem to be overwhelming to us, will become a second thought because we are soaring with Him. In verse 26 it says, “Do you not know?” “Have you not heard?” “The Lord is the Creator of the ends of the earth.” God not only created the Heavens and Earth, but He created you and me. Therefore just as spectacular as those mountains are, YOU are just as breathtaking to Him. In verse 30, it says that “even the youths grow tired and weary.” As students, workers, parents, spouses, and friends we have many obligations in our life. However, we do not need to grow weary in our well doing, but realize that God freely gives us strength and “increases the power of the weak.” (verse 29).
When we give our cares and concerns to God, we begin to look at life the same way I was looking out of the airplane’s window, with joy! Facing the large and consuming mountains of school, debt, and life’s overall situations, they will seem to decrease into something inconsequential. This will occur when we soar with Him. Often, it seems, that we have our life's binoculars turned around. We all know that when you look into a pair of binoculars, everything becomes magnified. However, when you turn them around, the same thing that was once huge, instantly, seems so small and far away. It is time for us to turn life’s binoculars around to see things the way God sees them, containable. Life’s issues and situations may appear to be monstrous in our everyday existence, but when we soar with Him, all things become possible.
